LMC's Careers Leader invited to join panel at the “Leading for Impact” Excellence Seminar

Posted: 20.12.2023

Last month, Lancaster & Morecambe College’s Head of Engagement, Victoria Carter, was invited to join a panel of education experts at the Careers & Enterprise Company's (CEC) “Leading for Impact” Excellence Seminar in London. The focus of the seminar was embedding careers into the curriculum and teacher development.

The discussion took place in front of an audience of 80 educators, and was live-streamed to almost 600 careers and educational leaders.

Victoria, who is also LMC’s Careers Leader, joined representatives from education and industry to discuss a range of subjects including; overcoming barriers to embed careers into the curriculum, supporting disadvantaged young people to progress into employment, and the benefits of building sustained connections between employers and educational establishments.

“It was a fantastic opportunity to share ideas and good practice with colleagues from across the education sector, and I particularly enjoyed the conversation around building positive relationships with local and regional employers to support our careers provision. It was a bit daunting knowing that there were hundreds of people watching the seminar live from their offices and classrooms, but it was such a lively discussion that I soon forgot about that! There were some great ideas around embedding careers into all aspects of teaching, and how to ensure that all learners can access aspirational careers support throughout their time at school and college.”

Lancaster & Morecambe College were recognised as Careers Champions by the CEC in 2023, for the work they have done to raise awareness of green careers and embed sustainability into their curriculum, and for their partnership work with local primary and secondary schools.  Victoria and the careers team at LMC are looking forward to building on this success with a range of careers events and taster days planned for 2024, and will review their careers programme next year as part of a rigorous inspection process to gain the Quality in Careers Standard.

The seminar is available on the CEC website and more information about LMC’s careers advice and guidance service can be found on our dedicated Careers webpage.
