Accounting can be an exciting and varied career, I would highly recommend trying the Level 1 Short Courses to see if it's the area for you!
After 15 years of working in accounts and finance, the Covid-19 pandemic was the catalyst that made Lydia Read-Potter realise her dream of opening her own Accountancy firm, BookSmart Accounting. Fast-forward two years, and Lydia is beginning her journey as an Accountancy Trainer at Lancaster & Morecambe College.
“The pandemic gave me a whole new outlook on life, I was feeling this pressure but I wasn’t really getting the reward. Having that ability to make those decisions myself takes a lot of the pressure and stress off me.”
Lydia specialises in accounts, corporation tax, self-assessment, VAT, payroll, management information and advisory services, working with a client base which she has built over the last successful year. BookSmart Accounting was voted one of 2021’s ‘Most Successful Start-ups’ by accountingweb.co.uk after Lydia defied the pandemic and launched the practice in January ’21.
Following the success of her first year as BookSmart Accounting, Lydia then discovered a passion for education, so chose to use her knowledge and experience to support people in their bookkeeping and accounting journeys on the below courses at LMC:
Whether you’re just starting a new business venture, or you want to take more control of your accounts, join Lydia at Lancaster & Morecambe College on a Part Time Accounting course.
Industry specific apprenticeships are a great way to learn new skills and knowledge, achieve a recognised qualification and earn a wage. Customer service is the corner stone of every successful business, and courses at LMC will help you identify, improve and introduce these skills successfully.
The course gives people experiences of business in many forms which can be used in a huge variety of possible future careers – past students have gone on to work in sectors as diverse as fashion, charities, social media, nuclear energy, defence manufacturing and the public sector.
I enjoy being part of the team and thinking of new ways to support local businesses in realising their potential. Watching learners transition from a one-day course to gaining qualifications motivates me to continue teaching at LMC.
It’s really difficult to state just one thing I love about working at Lancaster & Morecambe College because there are so many! I really wanted to work here because the college has a fantastic reputation. I love introducing new ways of working and keeping up with relevant trends to improve the course, and I really enjoy the supportive environment that we create for our students.
Behind every great business is a fantastic accountant! AAT qualifications are highly valued and they can really push you to achieve great things in your career. The whole team at LMC are dedicated and excited about giving you the best possible start in your new journey!
Teaching is my favourite part of the role, I love being able to help people reach that lightbulb moment in class! I also enjoy being able to inspire the next generation of Residential workers.
