If you are thinking about doing this Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship, it is beneficial as you are able to learn the practical skills in the work place, whilst achieving a qualification.
Jess has just successfully completed her Early Years Practitioner Level 2 Apprenticeship at Lancaster & Morecambe College, and was awarded the highest grade of Distinction. She is currently employed as a Nursery Practitioner at Little People at the Limes Nursery near Preston, offering quality care and pre-school education for children aged from babies to 5 years old
One of the most enjoyable aspects of the course for Jess has been the ability to continue working while studying, allowing her to feel fully settled in her nursery setting while gaining the experience and knowledge needed to complete her qualification.
A key skill I have developed during my time at LMC is understanding the theory behind my job role, which has helped me to apply this knowledge confidently in my everyday practice in the nursery with the children and my work colleagues.
Studying at LMC has also supported Jess professionally by deepening her understanding of legislation, guidance and child development, all while remaining in her role as a Nursery Practitioner, caring for and educating children aged 2–3.
Her proudest achievement during her time at college is achieving a Distinction in her Level 2 Early Years Practitioner exam, a milestone that reflects her hard work and dedication, and she is planning to progress onto the Early Years Educator Apprenticeship Level 3 which will continue to expand and develop her knowledge of the Childcare industry.

As soon as interviewed, I knew I was keen to work here. I loved the atmosphere of the classrooms and the department that John and the rest of the team have created. One of my favourite things about the role is getting to talk about my passion, it’s not often people get to do that for a living. I’m very lucky!
Try to achieve the best grades you can. As a qualified Carpenter or Joiner, you will have the opportunity to work anywhere in the world.
All you need to start the Supported Internship course is enthusiasm, motivation, energy and determination. As the course progresses, you will develop your employability, personal and social skills, which will enable you to increase your independence and develop your confidence and self-esteem. All of these new skills will ensure that you are better prepared to enter the workplace as a skilled and effective employee.
I love working with my students and helping them to achieve their goals. It is extremely rewarding when students pass their exams, grasp a complex concept, and, ultimately, succeed in their qualification and in their careers.
My favourite aspect of my role is seeing learners who struggle to believe in themselves when they first begin their journey at LMC, but eventually realise that they are very capable. It is a lightbulb moment when they realise they can be or do anything they want to. Learners walk through our gates unsure of themselves and sometimes struggle to believe in their abilities, but by the end of their journey they walk out of LMC confident and ready to take on the world.
I love working with such keen and dedicated staff and students. I also like how every day is different because we attract such a wide range of students including year 11 from local high schools aged 16-18 who apply to the full time courses, to adult students who attend the part time courses. It’s nice to work with so many people from all different backgrounds and cultures who share a passion for cooking.
