Working with my learners and seeing their knowledge and confidence build throughout their learning is great to see. I really enjoy it when they can relate what we have learnt to their own working roles, and develop this even further to see how everything intertwines within the industry.
Vikki started working for Lancaster & Morecambe College in March 2025 alongside her role as a carer in the care sector. In this role she had began training new staff and really enjoyed providing them with the knowledge to succeed in their professional roles, so looked for a role which could incorporate the care side of her job along with the training and advising side, and the Work Based Skills Advisor, for Distance Learning at LMC seemed to be the perfect fit.
We asked Vikki what her favourite part of the role is and she said...

As a Work Based Skills Advisor at LMC Vikki works with the Apprenticeship team and teaches the Progression Sessions with the Apprentices, and also with the Work Based Learning team as where she does tutor assessments and planning for the Level 2 and Level 3 work-based diplomas in Care. Vikki also actively manages the tutor assessments for the Level 2 Distance Learning courses and plays a key role in gathering feedback and ensuring that the certificates are distributed to the students once they have completed their courses at home.
We asked Vikki, what she would say to someone who was thinking about studying a Distance Learning course and she said...
I would say have a go! We offer advice and guidance for anyone who wants to complete a course, and the course materials are fantastic. There is a lot of support available from your tutor during the course, and the teaching will fit around you and how you learn.
I’ve seen first hand how learners from all backgrounds thrive here at College, and it’s amazing to watch their confidence grow as they realise what they’re capable of. Education really can open doors, and LMC is a great place to start that journey.

Even though I only work with learners through distance learning, it is possible to establish a rapport with a learner that has been assigned to me – it is wonderful to help a person develop their confidence through the many distance learning awards we have on offer and to watch their work go from strength to strength.
