I was keen to join the fantastic team at LMC and to broaden my horizons after teaching and leading in primary education for many years.
Clare joined Lancaster & Morecambe College in 2025 after completing her Training, Assessment and Quality Assurance Assessor qualifications with us. She had previously worked in primary schools as a Teacher, and decided that the step into FE education would be the challenge that she was looking for.
I was keen to join the fantastic team at LMC and to broaden my horizons after teaching and leading in primary education for many years.
We asked Clare what her favourite part of working at LMC in her role is and she said...
As I assess on Distance Learning, my workload is incredibly flexible and fits alongside my other roles well. I also love the welcoming and nurturing team I work in, even though we rarely see each other in person, they support my development and are always available to offer advice.
Clare assesses on a range of courses, including the Special Education Needs and Disability Level 2 Certificate and the Understanding Autism Level 2 Certificate. She offers constructive feedback to aid learners in their progression and suggests advice and ideas for further training and development.
We asked Clare what would she say to someone who was thinking of taking part in a Distance Learning course and she said...
The courses I assess on have fascinating content, they offer practical ideas and back them up with relevant theories and ideas – I wish they had been offered to me whilst I trained as a teacher!
My favourite part of my role is helping my students take the first step towards fulfilling their ambitions to go to university and, eventually, progressing into their dream careers.
Industry specific apprenticeships are a great way to learn new skills and knowledge, achieve a recognised qualification and earn a wage. Customer service is the corner stone of every successful business, and courses at LMC will help you identify, improve and introduce these skills successfully.
My favourite part of the role is guiding my students through the more practical aspects of Forensic Science, especially latent fingerprint collection and evidence handling. I enjoy watching them develop their confidence and skills in these techniques
My favourite part of my job is helping people achieve their GCSE English, a key qualification which will open doors for them in the future.
The course gives people experiences of business in many forms which can be used in a huge variety of possible future careers – past students have gone on to work in sectors as diverse as fashion, charities, social media, nuclear energy, defence manufacturing and the public sector.
I love working with my students and helping them to achieve their goals. It is extremely rewarding when students pass their exams, grasp a complex concept, and, ultimately, succeed in their qualification and in their careers.
