This course allows parents to learn more about child development and wellbeing which is delivered as a two-hour weekly session.

Using your own experiences and through group discussion, reflection, a learner log, and photographic evidence, you will build a portfolio of work of which the format can be tailored to suit the learner. On successful completion of the course, you will receive a Level 1 Skills for Working in the Childcare Industries qualification, which will enable you to pursue a career in childcare.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, just a commitment to your studies and an enjoyment of working with people.

Course Activities

The topics covered on the course will include:

  • Supporting a child’s literacy and numeracy development

  • Family Learning

  • Healthy Eating for Families

  • Parenting Skills

  • Children’s Social and Emotional Development

One hour a week of home study is recommended, although not essential.

There are a variety of progression opportunities available within College including a range of Apprenticeships in Childcare, or the below Full and Part Time courses:

Level 2 - Principles of Working with Individuals with Learning Disabilities

Course Fees

This course costs £122.00, including exam fees.

You may be eligible for free study if you are 23 or under and this is your first full Level 2 or 3 course. Alternatively, if you are unemployed, receiving an eligible benefit, and taking the course to help you find employment.
