This course gives the learner a deeper understanding to both theoretical and practical aspects of electrical installation and can lead to an Electrical Apprenticeship or progression onto the full time Level 3 Electrical Installation. Electicians have exciting opportunities of work varying from domestic settings to industrial environments. This course requires you to actively solve problems and is ideal for someone who wants to pursue a hands on career.
This course is designed for 16-18 year old and adult learners, the course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills and employer encounters such as guest speakers. For 16-18 year old learners this will be delivered as a study programme which includes math and English where applicable and work experience.
The course can lead on to Electrical Installations Level 3 or an Apprenticeship.
4 GCSEs at grade C/4-5 or higher including Maths and English OR a Level 1 related qualification PLUS grade C/4-5 or higher in Maths.
Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.
You will also need an enthusiasm for the subject and commitment to study.
You will study the following:
• Cables and accessories.
• The National Grid.
• Trunking, tray and conduit systems.
• Running a business.
• The construction industry.
• Installing wiring systems & enclosures.
• Health and safety.
• Sustainability in domestic dwellings.
• Electrical science and technology.
• Circuit types
All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional Skills English and maths qualifications or GCSE mathematics and English if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects. If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study maths and/or English GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of maths and English Functional Skills. Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression into further or higher education, training or employment.
All LMC students will receive tutorial support.
This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including assignments, exams or online test and practical performance.
On completion of this course you will receive EAL Level 2 Electrical Installations. Nationally recognised by employers & further education.
