The BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 in Public Services is a two year, full time work related course.

Who is this Course for?

This course is designed for 16-18 year old and adult learners, the course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills and employer encounters such as guest speakers. For 16-18 year old learners this will be delivered as a study programme which includes math and English where applicable and work experience.

What progression and career opportunities will I gain?

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to either apply for employment in one of the Public Services. Alternatively, students may wish to progress to the Level 4/5 HNC/HND course in Public Services at College with the option of topping up to a full degree at University. Students can also apply straight to University to undertake a degree programme in a related subject area.

In addition the course will provide a sound foundation for employment in other occupations.

What are the entry requirements for the course?

5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher including Maths and English OR a Level 2 related qualification PLUS grade C/4 or higher in BOTH Maths and English.

Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

• Law and the Legal System

• Planning an Event or Team Sport

• Current and Media Affairs

• Crime and Its Effects

• Land Based Skills for the Outdoors

• Custodial Care

• International Organisations

• Physical Preparation, Health and Lifestyle

• Outdoor and Adventurous Activities

• Security Procedures in the Public Services

• Volunteering in Public Services

• Planning and Management of Major Incidents

• Impact of War and Conflict

All LMC students will receive tutorial support.

How will I be Assessed?

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including projects, assignments, case studies, course work, personal fitness development and performance in team and problem solving exercises.

There is no final examination.

What qualification will I get?

On completion of this course you will receive BTEC Extended Diploma in Public Services (Uniformed), is equivalent to three A Levels. An opportunity exists for students to be awarded the BTEC Diploma, equivalent to 2 A Levels or a 90-Credit Diploma equivalent to 1.5 A Levels.
