We welcomed around 40 guests onto campus last month for the official launch of our fantastic new vocational learning facilities.
Employers from the engineering, energy, construction and animal management sectors were invited to tour LMC's innovative Clean Engineering Centre, a range of animal workshops including our dedicated Nocturnal and Aquatic rooms, our fully refurbished Forensic and Science Laboratories and our T Level Learning Zones.
They were joined by representatives from Lancashire Careers Hub, Eden Project Morecambe, Cumbria Chamber of Commerce, Lancaster City Council, Lancaster & Morecambe Chamber of Commerce, the Electech Innovation Cluster and careers leaders from local schools, who were welcomed by LMC's Principal, Danny Braithwaite, in the Bay Restaurant before heading off to tour the new facilities.
Our programme managers and tutors were on hand to showcase the resources and learning spaces, and to outline the benefit to our students and apprentices. Libby Haughton, who oversees T Level provision in Health, Early Years and Business explained how the dedicated T Level zones have created an environment which allows the L3 students to develop independent learning skills.
By replacing the traditional classrooms with open plan study spaces and sector-specific resources, it now has a similar feel to a university, and the students have really flourished.
Employers from local and regional engineering businesses were impressed with the Clean Engineering Centre, which opened to students this September and houses specialist electronic bays, independent study pods and the latest hi-spec equipment and tools. Visitors also had the opportunity to visit an "active" crime scene in the new forensic science labs and engage in some hands-on experiences with reptiles in the exotic animal workshop.
Phil Wilkinson, Group CEO at Ascentis, an award-winning provider of innovative qualifications, said
I was blown away by the impressive new facilities, including the Clean Engineering Centre, Animal & Forensic Science Labs, T Level Learning Zones, and refurbished workshops. These industry-standard spaces are a fantastic investment in skills and opportunities for learners and the local community. The passion and commitment behind these projects really stood out, and it’s inspiring to see the college’s mission to deliver outstanding vocational education in action.
Our whole campus is open for visitors to tour at Open Evenings and events throughout the year. To register to attend go to our website:
