T Level Student Wins Regional Award

Posted: 02.10.2026

Katie Topping, T Level Health student from 2024-2026, has just WON the 2026 North West Regional T Level Student of the Year Award at the Apprenticeship and Skills Awards and is through to the National final!

This award recognises an exceptional student whose dedication, talent, and commitment have set them apart as an outstanding ambassador for T Level education. Through consistently high academic achievement, excellence during their industry placement, and a proactive approach to personal and professional development, they have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to succeed in their chosen career.

Her course Tutor Caroline said,

Katie has been an exceptional student, showing outstanding effort in the classroom and training ward, developing excellent knowledge and skills, to achieve an overall Distinction grade on the T Level. Katie got fantastic feedback from her placements. Katie undertook clinical placements with the local trust - UHMBT, within the emergency department, and in the cardiac centre. Katie also secured a NWAS cadetship placement whilst studying at LMC, and has gone on to Nottingham Trent University to study Paramedic Science.

Katie's determination, resilience, and ability to apply learning in real-world settings have earned praise from both educators and employers.

Winning the Regional T Level Student of the Year Award is a testament to her hard work, achievement, and future potential. Katie exemplifies the very best of T Level education and are a deserving recipient of this prestigious recognition.

We also heard from one of her placement teams at Westmorland General Hospital, the Cardiac Centre, who said,

Katie consistently demonstrated confidence, compassion, and professionalism throughout her placement. One particularly notable example was when she identified a significant change in a patient’s condition before others had recognised it. Katie immediately informed the nurse in charge. Her quick response and excellent observation skills ensured the patient received urgent and appropriate care without delay. This demonstrated exceptional awareness, maturity, and clinical understanding for a student at her level.

BONUS: Another win of the evening was for our placement provider UHMBT Careers & Apprenticeships Team, who won the Regional T Level Employer of the Year Award.

A massive thank you and congratulations to the teams who hosted Katie on placement and provided a high-quality learning experience, as well as all of our other T Level students too.

Thank you for helping to inspire, develop and nurture the next generation of the health and care workforce. Your contribution has made a real difference.
