I would recommend LMC as a fantastic place to study sport and continue your development and interests in football. Your studies link to your football development as much as possible, helping you gain the knowledge, skills and experiences to pursue a career in sport in the future.
As of May 2022, Chris Squirrel became a Lecturer in Sport & Lead Football Coach at LMC where he teaches on all Sports programmes and leads on the LMC Football Academy, with the aim to prepare a competitive team for the league championship.
Chris started his LMC journey as a student before progressing in his career and specialising in Sports Coaching, Science, Strength & Conditioning as a First Team Fitness & Rehabilitation Coach at Morecambe Football Club.
Since becoming a member of staff at LMC, Chris is developing the use of technology within the courses currently offered in Sport, so that learners can gain real-life experience within their studies.
Access to high-quality facilities and equipment was a contributing factor in Chris' decision to be a part of the College Community and to support teaching and coaching across the department.
Chris is proud of the exposure to Morecambe Football Club which LMC's Football Academy students have access to on campus, alongside the extra opportunities for learners to enjoy and perform in new environments, including arranging football training camps and fixtures overseas in Alicante.
The additional activities LMC offer to students are superb and provides extra opportunities to test and enjoy new environments. The variety of modules that I can teach based on my background in professional sport enables me to support multiple areas of courses at LMC.
When asked what advice he'd give to someone applying for a course in Sport, Chris said:

Welding particularly is like lego for adults – its great fun making things. Whereas Engineering will teach you why things are made the way they are and a combination of both will give you the skills to make almost anything you can think of! Why not give it a go!
My favourite aspect of my role is seeing learners who struggle to believe in themselves when they first begin their journey at LMC, but eventually realise that they are very capable. It is a lightbulb moment when they realise they can be or do anything they want to. Learners walk through our gates unsure of themselves and sometimes struggle to believe in their abilities, but by the end of their journey they walk out of LMC confident and ready to take on the world.
Come and join us here as LMC! You’ll gain new skills, use industry standard equipment, be taught by a dedicated team of specialists who are passionate about educating you to a higher skills level, so that you can gain an Apprenticeship or full time employment.
My favourite part of the role is guiding my students through the more practical aspects of Forensic Science, especially latent fingerprint collection and evidence handling. I enjoy watching them develop their confidence and skills in these techniques
I enjoy sharing my knowledge and experience of animals with students and seeing a learners journey as they make progress. The best part of teaching the course would definitely be the experience we offer learners, it's a unique and hands on way of developing their knowledge of working with animals.
I would say that Hospitality & Catering industry isn’t an easy option, but it can be really rewarding and enjoyable if you work hard at it. It also has excellent job prospects at the end of the course, as the majority of our completing students gain full time employment within high class establishments
