It’s all thanks to the course I took and my amazing tutors, that I now have my dream career! I would highly recommend the course to anyone wanting to go to university, without the Access course I would never have had the opportunity as I only had 1 GCSE when I left high school.
Bobby first started her journey at Lancaster & Morecambe College when she finished high school and found the College to be friendly and supportive. In 2017, Bobby came back to College to study our Health and Social Care Professionals Level 2 part time course which led her to progress onto our full time Access to HE Diploma in 2018 and is now a midwife for the NHS.
When asked what the best parts of the course were for her, Bobby said
I loved that the tutors were always there for me and helped guide me through my course. I found all the learning modules to be relevant and interesting.
The access course allowed her to expand her academic skills such as how to correctly reference and how to better structure her writing in preparation for University level studying. As well as developing her academic skills, Bobby also further improved her critical thinking skills which helps her whilst working in an often stressful, high-intensity environment such as the NHS.
When writing assignments for my university work, I would always remember what my tutor, Laura, had taught me. She would always say that to enhance the quality of my assignments I should ask myself ‘so what?’; using this I was able to produce my best work.
Since completing the Access course, Bobby attended University of Cumbria, developing the skills and knowledge that she learned during her time at College. After graduating with an impressive first class honors in Midwifery. Bobby currently works as a midwife for the NHS,
In my job role, I am responsible for the care of women and their families throughout their entire pregnancy journey. I would encourage anyone considering the course to go for it. The course offers much more than subject knowledge; it also helps students develop valuable, transferable skills that can support them in whatever they choose to do in the future. Whether they decide to continue their studies, move into employment or follow a different pathway, the skills and experience gained on this course can help them to excel.
I love working at Lancaster & Morecambe College with such an amazing team that are passionate about delivering outstanding teaching across the departments. The Apprenticeship courses at LMC are well developed programmes that offer students amazing opportunities and experiences, whilst allowing them to earn while they learn as they progress through the Apprenticeship.
Be prepared to work hard and be challenged. The more you put in, the more you will get out of the course. It's a rewarding experience as you can clearly see your skills develop. There is also a great demand for skilled plasterers and the potential for good earnings, so why not give it a go?
All you need to start the Supported Internship course is enthusiasm, motivation, energy and determination. As the course progresses, you will develop your employability, personal and social skills, which will enable you to increase your independence and develop your confidence and self-esteem. All of these new skills will ensure that you are better prepared to enter the workplace as a skilled and effective employee.
The course gives people experiences of business in many forms which can be used in a huge variety of possible future careers – past students have gone on to work in sectors as diverse as fashion, charities, social media, nuclear energy, defence manufacturing and the public sector.
Even though I only work with learners through distance learning, it is possible to establish a rapport with a learner that has been assigned to me – it is wonderful to help a person develop their confidence through the many distance learning awards we have on offer and to watch their work go from strength to strength.
