LMC has helped me move into a professional space as I am now heading to the University of Cumbria to become an amazing Occupational Therapist. I want to get a promising career that helps me give back to the NHS, who have helped me through a major journey.
Stacey began her journey with LMC in 2024, enrolling on the Access to HE Level 3 course. She is currently a full-time mum and volunteers with a local homeless charity, where she helps to befriend and support individuals who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or have recently been rehoused. Stacey originally studied Hairdressing, but it wasn’t the right fit for her. She later chose to study the Access to HE course particularly the Health & Social Care route.
“My time at LMC has made me more confident with academic structures for essays, reports and assignments. A highlight has been gaining confidence in Harvard referencing, which will help me at university.”

Stacey shared that the most enjoyable parts of the course were meeting new people and learning new skills that will benefit her at university and beyond. She said that her biggest takeaways from being a student at LMC were learning to be more patient with herself and giving herself more credit, as she realised she knew more than she thought. Her proudest achievement since leaving College has been securing a confirmed place at University of Cumbria.
“The advice I would give to someone considering appying to the Access course would be that it is very intense and you need to put in a lot of hard work to get the results. However, it is worthwhile and is a huge stepping stone to progressing to university.”
Stacey’s journey shows how determination and the right support can lead to exciting new opportunities. With her university place confirmed, she’s ready to take the next step towards a fulfilling career in healthcare.
Whether you're confident that you want to be a plumber/gas engineer, think you want to try your hand at it, or have no idea what you want to do - plumbing or gas work is an excellent asset for anyone to have. They're both great career options, loved by foreign countries if you're looking to travel, or at the very least will save you some money on a plumber in the future no matter what you end up doing!
Try to achieve the best grades you can. As a qualified Carpenter or Joiner, you will have the opportunity to work anywhere in the world.
I’ve seen first hand how learners from all backgrounds thrive here at College, and it’s amazing to watch their confidence grow as they realise what they’re capable of. Education really can open doors, and LMC is a great place to start that journey.
Welding particularly is like lego for adults – its great fun making things. Whereas Engineering will teach you why things are made the way they are and a combination of both will give you the skills to make almost anything you can think of! Why not give it a go!
My favourite part of working at Lancaster & Morecambe college is watching students progress and supporting them with their learning. I also love knowing they are learning within a hairdressing environment and being able to see them develop their skills and knowledge in hairdressing.
My favourite part of my role is helping my students take the first step towards fulfilling their ambitions to go to university and, eventually, progressing into their dream careers.
