This course is a one year full time course geared towards a career in the sports and leisure industry or for progression on to a higher level programme of study such as a Higher National Diploma.

The Sports Coaching pathway will prepare students for a variety of roles in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry by developing personal skills and qualities needed for a career in the sector, including leadership skills, communication skills and working effectively in a team, personal and group standards and acceptable behaviour for the leisure industry.

Students will be involved in practical sport, sports coaching and physical fitness classes in which they will develop their practical knowledge and skills as a performer and coach as well as their own personal fitness and training understanding.

Who is this Course for?

This course is designed for 16-18 year old and adult learners the course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills and employer encounters such as guest speakers. For 16-18 year old will be delivered as a study programme which includes math and English where applicable and work experience.

What progression and career opportunities will I gain?

NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction
NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training
Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND in Sport (Sports Coaching and Development) or Sport (Exercise, Health and Fitness) at Lancaster & Morecambe College

What are the entry requirements for the course?

5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher including Maths and English OR a Level 2 related qualification PLUS grade C/4 or higher in BOTH Maths and English.


You will also need enthusiasm for the subject/area, evidence of good skills in practical subjects, enjoy working with people, commitment to study, proven interest in sports and good interpersonal skills.
