One of my biggest achievements at College has been leading the football team as captain on multiple occasions, showing that I can take responsibility, communicate well, and guide others under pressure. Alongside my leadership on the pitch, I’m also proud of the academic success I have achieved in earning a Distinction: Distinction: Merit on my Football Studies course
Aidan joined Lancaster & Morecambe College because it offered the perfect environment to develop both his education and his passion for sport. His College journey started in September 2023, when he enrolled onto the Football Studies Level 3 course, a programme that helped him build confidence, develop his skills and understand of the game in far greater depth. Completing that course opened the door to his next career step, progressing onto the Sport HNC, where he is now expanding his knowledge even further and taking on new challenges.
Choosing LMC meant I could study in a supportive community that I was already comfortable with, while still challenging myself with new experiences and opportunities. The College’s strong reputation, accessible facilities and specialised courses particularly in sport and football made it the ideal place to build my skills, work towards my future goals and take an important step forward in my personal and professional development. A further reason I chose LMC was the opportunity to be coached by staff with experience in professional football, as having access to coaches with this level of expertise has been extremely valuable for my personal development.
The Sports courses at LMC help students to align directly with their sporting career goals and give them the knowledge, experience and qualifications needed to progress toward a career in the industry. The mix of practical sessions and theoretical learning helps them understand both the performance and organisational sides of sport, preparing them for roles in coaching, analysis, fitness or leadership. LMC also helps students professionally because they take part in one work placement per year. Aidan chose to go to Morecambe Community Sports and St Patrick’s Primary School on his placements which he really enjoyed. He also had the opportunity to go overseas on a 2 week placement to Alicante, Spain and played football with different coaches and leart different communication methods.
During my time at College, I’ve developed a wide range of skills that have helped me grow both on and off the pitch. I was appointed team captain within my second year which has developed my communication and leadership skills as well as providing me with regular opportunities to practice leading by example and motivating others, all of which are vital for a role as a Sports Coach. I’ve also improved my teamwork and tactical understanding through training and match preparation. Apart from football, the courses at LMC have strengthened my confidence, organisation and ability to manage responsibilities. I particularly enjoy the social side of the course with my teammates as this has helped me build strong relationships, develop better communication skills, and become more comfortable working with different personalities.

Alongside my leadership on the pitch, I’m also proud of the academic success I have achieved in earning a Distinction: Distinction: Merit on my Football Studies course. Also reaching the 4th round of the National Cup was another major highlight, proving the hard work, commitment and teamwork that I’ve put into both my studies and my sport over the past couple of years has been worth the effort.
After completing the Sport HNC course, Aidan plans to progress onto my Sport HND qualification to continue building his knowledge and experience in the field. From there, he is aiming to go to university to finish his full degree and then complete an additional year of teacher training to gain the qualification he needs to teach. Once he's achieved that, he would like to secure a career in either coaching or teaching where he can use the skills, experience and passion for sport to help develop the next generation of students and athletes.
I would encourage anyone to do this course because it gives you the chance to train regularly, develop your skills, and learn from quality coaches who strive to help you improve. The atmosphere is supportive and social, so you meet new people and feel part of a proper team straight away. On top of playing, the course teaches valuable skills like fitness, analysis and coaching, which can open up multiple future opportunities. If you enjoy football and want a College experience that’s both fun and genuinely useful for your career, this course is honestly one of the best options you can take. I can highly recommend it!
Try to achieve the best grades you can. As a qualified Carpenter or Joiner, you will have the opportunity to work anywhere in the world.
Whether you're confident that you want to be a plumber/gas engineer, think you want to try your hand at it, or have no idea what you want to do - plumbing or gas work is an excellent asset for anyone to have. They're both great career options, loved by foreign countries if you're looking to travel, or at the very least will save you some money on a plumber in the future no matter what you end up doing!
My favourite part of working at Lancaster & Morecambe college is watching students progress and supporting them with their learning. I also love knowing they are learning within a hairdressing environment and being able to see them develop their skills and knowledge in hairdressing.
We have a very knowledgeable and dedicated team from different areas of the animal industry. We offer a range of courses in Animal Studies at different levels to cater for a wide range of students. Practically, you will work with a range of animals on site, spend time in our laboratories and hone your skills further during independent work-related experience. Working with animals can be a fun and rewarding career but it does involve hard graft and dedication!
The vocational skills development we offer at College are exceptional. The partners we work with are excellent and will help the students to develop further, as well as the opportunities we provide such as the Alicante trip are amazing, and you would struggle to find another college or sixth form that offers similar opportunities.
I really enjoy being part of the LMC Beauty Team and working within the department. Watching my students grow and develop their ideas and skillsets week on week is a really exciting part of my role, particularly when I can see them challenging themselves to get creative and try out new and different ideas.
