In my role as a course tutor I’m responsible for ensuring that my students develop in many areas, and not just Hairdressing. I like to encourage my students to improve their well-being as well as support them with their personal development and learning journey, to gain the knowledge to be successful within their course to achieve the qualifications they need to progress in the industry.

Tracie Carrick has worked at Lancaster & Morecambe College since 1998, and works with the full time students and Apprentices on the various full time Hairdressing courses and Apprenticeships on offer at College. She has worked in the hairdressing industry for many years before deciding to move into education and teaching. Tracie decided to become a tutor at LMC because she wanted to share her knowledge with others and inspire the next generation of hairdressers.

Tracie supports students in learning the hairdressing skills they need for the industry. She loves watching them personally develop and achieve the qualifications that will aid them to progress in the world of work.

All the courses Tracie teaches are practical based and set in The Salon, our real work environment set in the heart of our campus. which gives students the opportunity to gain skills and behavious relevant to the hairdressing industry.

Each week our students learn about relevant areas of the industry to succeed in passing their practical and theory exams. The fun activities, tasks and revision tools are also used to engage students, and I always like to make sure that they look at the important issues and themes useful to everyday life to support their personal development and knowledge.

Tracie also highlights that a career in Hairdressing can be challenging and hard work, but can be very rewarding as you talk to people while focusing on creating a hairstyle that will make them feel great.

Hairdressing is a vibrant, chatty and creative professional environment. It’s incredibly rewarding for me to observe my students develop, because they enjoy learning how to make people feel good!
