My time at LMC was more than just academic, it was a period of personal and professional growth. I gained practical skills that I continue to use in the workplace, alongside a deeper understanding of business. The supportive learning environment helped build my confidence, resilience, and ability to work collaboratively
Georgia was part of LMC’s first-ever T Level cohort, completing the T Level Business & Project Management Level 3 course from 2023 to 2025. After transferring from another college, she quickly found her feet at LMC and secured a placement with local company HSE Advice UK, a growing Health & Safety consultancy based at White Cross. During her placement, she gained hands-on experience, supported the launch of a podcast series, and began working towards industry qualifications. Georgia is now employed full-time with the company, carrying out risk assessments for school work placements while completing a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Health & Safety. She is on track to become a fully qualified Health & Safety Consultant within two years.
Georgia chose the T Level in Business & Project Management because it offered a valuable combination of classroom learning and practical experience, 80% in college and 20% in the workplace, aligning perfectly with her interest in how businesses operate. She particularly enjoyed gaining hands-on experience with HSE Advice UK during her placement. Throughout her time at LMC, Georgia developed key professional skills including time management, punctuality, and presentation skills.
The course at LMC provided me with valuable skills and knowledge that have directly enhanced my professional capabilities. Whether through gaining a recognised qualification, improving my confidence in the workplace, or deepening my understanding of industry-specific practices, the experience has contributed meaningfully to my career progression. It also offered opportunities to connect with others in my field, helping me build a stronger professional network and broaden my perspective.
Georgia currently works as a Health and Safety Assistant at HSE Advice UK, where she supports the development and implementation of workplace safety protocols across a variety of environments. Her role includes conducting risk assessments, assisting with compliance checks, and contributing to the creation of engaging safety materials that promote awareness and best practices among staff. The position requires strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and a proactive approach to maintaining a safe and legally compliant workplace.
My time at LMC was more than just academic, it was a period of personal and professional growth. I gained practical skills that I continue to use in the workplace, alongside a deeper understanding of business. The supportive learning environment helped build my confidence, resilience, and ability to work collaboratively. I also developed a clearer sense of direction for my career, thanks to the guidance of knowledgeable tutors and real-world learning opportunities.
Georgia shared that her biggest accomplishment since leaving College has been gaining full-time employment with her placement provider and starting an Apprenticeship with them.
The advice I would give if you are considering taking the course is: you need to ensure that you have time to study outside of College and ensure that you know what is included in your exams before the day. And if you don’t, Jon is always there to support you.
Be prepared to work hard and be challenged. The more you put in, the more you will get out of the course. It's a rewarding experience as you can clearly see your skills develop. There is also a great demand for skilled plasterers and the potential for good earnings, so why not give it a go?
I love working at Lancaster & Morecambe College with such an amazing team that are passionate about delivering outstanding teaching across the departments. The Apprenticeship courses at LMC are well developed programmes that offer students amazing opportunities and experiences, whilst allowing them to earn while they learn as they progress through the Apprenticeship.
In my role as a course tutor I’m responsible for ensuring that my students develop in many areas, and not just Hairdressing. I like to encourage my students to improve their well-being as well as support them with their personal development and learning journey, to gain the knowledge to be successful within their course to achieve the qualifications they need to progress in the industry.
I would say come to College, study Beauty Therapy, be pampered, pamper clients, but be prepared to work hard for the qualifications to get far in the industry. It's a very rewarding career to go into, putting smiles on clients faces and giving them a new found confidence.
The most satisfying part of my job role is inspiring students to have the confidence to become beauty therapists and work in their dream careers.
My favourite aspect of my role is seeing learners who struggle to believe in themselves when they first begin their journey at LMC, but eventually realise that they are very capable. It is a lightbulb moment when they realise they can be or do anything they want to. Learners walk through our gates unsure of themselves and sometimes struggle to believe in their abilities, but by the end of their journey they walk out of LMC confident and ready to take on the world.
