Do it, apply and take the opportunity as the course can change your life, teach you how to handle pressure, and help build confidence for your future career! If you want to work in the hospitality and catering industry this course is for you, you learn skills for life. My career wouldn't be possible without the course.
Jade started her Lancaster & Morecambe College journey after school in 2015, studying Hospitality & Catering Level 2 then later progressing onto the Hospitality & Catering Level 3 course. She chose to study at LMC as she had heard from friends that it was the best college in the area and had also seen in the media that many great chefs had trained here.
Jade loved all aspects of her course, never finding a dull moment. During her time here, she gained all the relevant skills, knowledge and behaviours that allowed her to get her dream career. Having the opportunity to work in our on site restaurant, The Bay Restraunt and the trip to the London, where she visited Billingates FIsh Market, which gave her hands-on experience and allowed Jade to develop her confidence and customer service skills further.
The best part of my course was every part! I really enjoyed the practical side, when we got to cook, as it allowed me to gain valuable skills that I still use today. I chose the course because LMC is highly regarded for hospitality training, and it gave me the opportunity to develop both personally and professionally.
In her current job as a barista and café worker at the Bay View Garden Centre, Jade utilises everything she learnt at college on a day to day basis. The course greatly benefited her as she learnt a variety of skills including time management, teamworking and how to deliver quality service.
The courses helped me secure my first job at 17 and shaped me from a shy teenager into a confident young adult, thanks to the support and guidance of mentors and tutors. I know my course tutors would laugh at me for saying I learnt time management, but honestly all the skills I learnt have stayed with me since I left LMC, including excellent front-of-house and customer service and how to work confidently with the general public. It's really all thanks to my tutors Adrian and Julie, as they supplied me with everything I needed to know to work in this industry.
Jade uses the cooking and baking skills she learnt at college at home and as a hobby. She even entered a local show with her cooking, saying:
I won 1st prize at a local show for my rasberry jam! I even got a mention on James Martin's Saturday Morning.
Since leaving college Jade has always been employed in the hospitality industry, her first job was as a supervisor at Aspect Bar and Bistro where she worked for over 5 years. She would definitely recommend the course to anyone thinking about it.

If you want the opportunity to use and develop practical skills, learn about an accessible vocational area, have fun, work hard and deal with the public then this is the course for you. LMC is a great community asset and I think the local district are lucky to have such a modern, flexible and engaging place of education.
I love working with such keen and dedicated staff and students. I also like how every day is different because we attract such a wide range of students including year 11 from local high schools aged 16-18 who apply to the full time courses, to adult students who attend the part time courses. It’s nice to work with so many people from all different backgrounds and cultures who share a passion for cooking.
My favourite aspect of my role is seeing learners who struggle to believe in themselves when they first begin their journey at LMC, but eventually realise that they are very capable. It is a lightbulb moment when they realise they can be or do anything they want to. Learners walk through our gates unsure of themselves and sometimes struggle to believe in their abilities, but by the end of their journey they walk out of LMC confident and ready to take on the world.
I would say that Hospitality & Catering industry isn’t an easy option, but it can be really rewarding and enjoyable if you work hard at it. It also has excellent job prospects at the end of the course, as the majority of our completing students gain full time employment within high class establishments
