The NCFE Level 2 Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Services is a one year, full time, work related course aimed at students who wish to consider a career in one of Britain’s Public Services. During the course you will have considerable contact with the range of public services through visits, exercises, short residential experiences and work observations. You will be expected to participate in a range of challenging out of college activities where the emphasis will be on team development.
This course is designed for 16-18 year old and will be delivered as a study programme which includes math and English where applicable and work experience. The course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills and employer encounters such as guest speakers.
The course prepares students for the selection procedures of the uniformed services and/or allows them to progress onto a higher level course such as Public Services Level 3.
4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or higher including Maths or English OR a Level 1 related qualification PLUS grade D/3 or higher in Maths or English.
Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.
You will follow a core syllabus covering:
• Employment in the Public Services
• Physical Fitness
• Team Working
• Health & Safety
• Uniformed Services Routine
• Equality and Diversity in the Public Services
• Map Reading & Navigation
All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional Skills English and maths qualifications or GCSE mathematics and English if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects. If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study maths and/or English GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of maths and English Functional Skills. Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression into further or higher education, training or employment.
All LMC students will receive tutorial support.
This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including projects, assignments, case studies, course work, personal fitness development and performance in team activities.
On completion of this course you will receive Level 2 NCFE Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Services.
