Two key things I learned during my time at LMC were to push myself to be more sociable and to speak up. My classmates were so encouraging; they gave me the space to share my thoughts and reminded me that it’s okay to ask for help. The tutors were fantastic, always adapting their support to meet our individual needs.
Lisa began her journey with LMC in 2024, enrolling onto the Access to HE Diploma. Alongside this, she successfully completed Functional Skills in Maths and English, as well as a GCSE Biology. Determined to gain a place at university, Lisa committed herself fully to her studies and achieved the grades she needed.
“I chose to study at LMC because of its strong reputation in the local area. The staff were incredibly supportive and welcoming, and the wide range of courses available really worked in my favour. It gave me the chance to improve my grades and gain up-to-date qualifications in Maths, English, and Science.”
Lisa shared that one of the most rewarding parts of her experience was learning alongside other adult learners. Being surrounded by people who understood her journey made the experience even more meaningful.

“On a personal level, one of the most special things I’m taking away are the friendships I’ve made. I met so many like-minded people who shared the same dream, and we supported each other every step of the way. We had fun, helped each other learn, and created memories I’ll always treasure.”
Lisa explained that LMC helped her professionally by allowing her to refresh her academic skills, update her qualifications, and ultimately achieve her goal of going to university.
Lisa’s proudest achievement since finishing College has been receiving an offer from her dream university. She’s now ready to continue her studies and work towards the degree she’s been striving for.
“If you’re thinking about enrolling on the Access course, just go for it! Don’t hesitate. It will help you grow both academically and personally. You’re never too old to learn.”
Now preparing to start university, Lisa is proud of everything she’s achieved at LMC. Her time at College helped her build confidence, gain new qualifications, and make lasting friendships. She’s excited for what’s next and encourages anyone thinking about returning to education to take that first step.
My favourite part of this role is working with such an amazing team here at Lancaster & Morecambe College, and also being able to pass on my industry knowledge to all my students and support them in their journey to becoming a Beauty Therapist.
I love working with such keen and dedicated staff and students. I also like how every day is different because we attract such a wide range of students including year 11 from local high schools aged 16-18 who apply to the full time courses, to adult students who attend the part time courses. It’s nice to work with so many people from all different backgrounds and cultures who share a passion for cooking.
If you want the opportunity to use and develop practical skills, learn about an accessible vocational area, have fun, work hard and deal with the public then this is the course for you. LMC is a great community asset and I think the local district are lucky to have such a modern, flexible and engaging place of education.
The most satisfying part of my job role is inspiring students to have the confidence to become beauty therapists and work in their dream careers.
If you are interested in working with animals, this is a great course for you! As not only do you gain the knowledge and practical skills to work with animals, but you also gain the employability skills to be able to work in teams and work within the industry. It's important to remember that jobs in the animal industry are not just about working with animals, you need to have the skills to deal with people too!
In my role as a course tutor I’m responsible for ensuring that my students develop in many areas, and not just Hairdressing. I like to encourage my students to improve their well-being as well as support them with their personal development and learning journey, to gain the knowledge to be successful within their course to achieve the qualifications they need to progress in the industry.
