I’ve seen first hand how learners from all backgrounds thrive here at College, and it’s amazing to watch their confidence grow as they realise what they’re capable of. Education really can open doors, and LMC is a great place to start that journey.
Andrew began working at LMC in October 2023 as part of the Multiply Project, which focused on teaching Maths to adults in the local community. He also teaches Biology within the Access to HE and GCSE pathways. Both roles appeal to him because they offer the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives through education.
"One of my favourite parts of working at LMC is helping my learners to rediscover a passion for science, especially through practical activities and experiments. Seeing their confidence grow as they engage with hands-on learning and begin to ask curious, thoughtful questions is incredibly rewarding."
Andrew has a very wide range of teaching responsibilities. A typical week can include classroom sessions on topics like cells and ecosystems, as well as practical activities such as using Bunsen burners and performing heart dissections. He enjoys the variety and finds it keeps both him and his learners engaged. Andrew finds it incredibly rewarding to see students build their skills and confidence through practical experiments and real-world applications of Science.
When Andrew asked what he would you say to someone who was thinking about studying a course at College, he replied:
"Definitely apply, no matter how long you’ve been out of education! All of the staff here at LMC are kind and caring, and will support you every step of the way, whether you’ve just finished your GCSEs in high school or you’re coming back into education for a career change. I’ve seen first hand how learners from all backgrounds thrive here at College, and it’s amazing to watch their confidence grow as they realise what they’re capable of. Education really can open doors, and LMC is a great place to start that journey."
Andrew’s passion for Science and his commitment to inclusive education make him a valued member of the LMC teaching team. His enthusiasm, practical approach, and supportive nature help learners of all backgrounds feel confident and inspired to achieve their goals.
I love working with people of all ages and backgrounds and seeing them make progress and achieve their qualifications, sometimes in “small” ways, such as remembering how to do a written multiplication.
My favourite aspect of my role is seeing learners who struggle to believe in themselves when they first begin their journey at LMC, but eventually realise that they are very capable. It is a lightbulb moment when they realise they can be or do anything they want to. Learners walk through our gates unsure of themselves and sometimes struggle to believe in their abilities, but by the end of their journey they walk out of LMC confident and ready to take on the world.
