An Apprenticeship is a perfect choice if you want to continue your studies and develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours in a specific industry, while also earning a salary in full-time employment; kickstarting your long-term career path.

An Accounts or Finance Assistant is an integral part of the team responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate finance function within a business. The Accounts or Finance Assistant is responsible for assisting the team of accountants with junior accounting duties. This role can be found in almost every sector with potential employers including corporate businesses, sole traders, partnerships, public sector, not-for-profit organisations and educational institutions.

As an apprentice you will need to be employed for at least 30 hours per week and you will need to attend College one day a week.

Entry Requirements

To study this Apprenticeship you must:

  • Show enthusiasm for the subject area

  • Have a commitment to study

  • Be able to work independently

  • Have good interpersonal skills

You must also have 4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or higher including English or Maths OR a related Level 1 qualification PLUS grade D/3 or higher in English or Maths.

Course Activities

On this Apprenticeship you will work towards completing the Foundation Certificate in Accountancy, This qualification will prepare you for junior and entry level accounting roles. It delivers a solid foundation in finance administration - covering areas such as double entry bookkeeping to basic costing principles and using accounting software. You will learn finance, accountancy, business and communications skills.

In addition to your work based training we offer a Skills Development Academy for gaining further knowledge and confidence. This gives you the opportunity to meet other apprentices, socialise on campus and gain additional industry insight from guest speakers.

The End Point Assessment (EPA) is the final stage of your apprenticeship. You will only be put forward to take this when your employer and training provider agree you are ready and when you have met all the skills, knowledge and behaviours for your Apprenticeship.

The EPA for this Apprenticeship will consist of two parts:

  • A structured interview, supported by the summary of portfolio evidence. The interview will last for 60 minutes, and will focus on the portfolio completed during the on-programme learning element of your apprenticeship. This interview will be conducted remotely with AAT.

  • An in-tray test overview. The test will be computer based, and will last for 105 minutes. The test will be made up of a combination of questions and data evaluations covering the knowledge and skills identified as applicable to the assessment method within the grading criteria.

For more detail on the Apprenticeship standard for this qualification visit the Institute of Apprenticeships and Technical Education.
