This 34 week course has been designed to support students who want to gain a basic knowledge of Health & Social Care and who may not have the entry requirements for main stream courses.

Whilst on this course you will participate in practical activities such as Healthy Cooking for Families and Sport for Health, as well as undertaking theory sessions to help you gain your qualification.

Entry Requirements

No qualifications are required for this course but learners must have a commitment to study, enjoy working with other people and be willing to undertake a range of learning activities.

Course Activities

Topics that could be covered on this course include:

  • Therapeutic & Creative Activities

  • Equality & Diversity

  • Understanding Physical Disabilities

  • Health & Safety in the Workplace

  • Youth Work

As part of this course students are also expected to look for, and undertake, a work placement within the Health & Social Care sector.

All students aged 16 -19 are also required to study Functional Skills English and maths qualifications or GCSE Maths and English if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects. If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study Maths and/or English GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of Maths and English Functional Skills.

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including; projects, assignments and portfolio presentations.

Depending on time of year on entry, prior knowledge and qualifications you could achieve a Level 1 Certificate in Skills for Working in the Health, Science and Lifestyles.

Progression Opportunities

This course could lead onto the City and Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Skills for Working in the Health, Science and Lifestyles, a Traineeship, or entry into employment.
