The course helped me develop valuable skills in project management, communication, leadership, and working with a wide range of people. Professionally, it taught me how to manage multiple deadlines and confidently tailor communication for different audiences. Most importantly, I learned that anything is achievable with the right support and determination.

Catherine studied at Lancaster & Morecambe College from 2011–2015, and completed the BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3, HNC and HND in Business. She chose to apply yo LMC after attending an open evening and being impressed by the support available and the daily Free bus transport from Settle.

The Business courses helped me develop valuable skills in project management, communication, leadership, and working with a wide range of people. On a professional basis, it taught me how to manage multiple deadlines and confidently tailor communication for different audiences. Most importantly, I learned that anything is achievable with the right support and determination.

During my studies, I particularly enjoyed the variety of business topics and the practical work with local SME business owners, including the Lancaster Ethical Small Traders Association. My time at LMC also gave me opportunities beyond the classroom, including becoming a volunteer guide, Student Union Communications Officer, and Lead Student Representative during the QAA Higher Education Review in 2014.

Today, Cathering works as a Community Rail Partnership Office/Social Inclusion Co-Ordinator, where she regularly uses the skills she developed at LMC to manage projects, communicate with diverse stakeholders, and support individuals with additional needs. As a Community Rail Partnership Officer her her main role is to manage community projects linked to local rail lines and stations to promote rail travel and sustainable transport. While the other part of her job as a Social Inclusion Co-Ordinator involves her supporting people who may be vulnerable or facing challenges such as mental health difficulties or disability to access support, improve wellbeing, and become more connectedin their community. One of her proudest achievements since leaving College was becoming one of the youngest Community Rail Partnership Officers in the country and sharing her social media marketing knowledge at national industry conferences.

My advice to anyone considering studying at LMC is simple: go for it. The support and opportunities available at College can help you achieve beyond your wildest dreams.
