Choosing to study in the increasingly popular Business department will give students access to a wide variety of subjects, linked to a range of employment sectors. Our students learn and continually develop an array of skills, relevant and vital to the real business environments they successfully progress into, in areas such as event management, retail, marketing and accounting.
A key strength of the Business provision is the dedicated and highly qualified teaching staff. They have a breadth of current industry specific experience in a number of sectors, in addition to running their own businesses, providing authentic, first-hand experience of real-world business activities.

Who is this Course for?

This course is designed for 16-18 year old and will be delivered as a study programme which includes math and English where applicable and work experience. The course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills and employer encounters such as guest speakers.

What progression and career opportunities will I gain?

Successful completion of the course enables students to progress onto amazing courses at some of the leading Business universities in the country as well as giving students opportunities to complete degree level apprenticeships with major employers, leading to fantastic employment possibilities.

What are the entry requirements for the course?

A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher including Maths and English. Also an interest and enthusiasm for the subject. Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

What does the course involve?

You will study at least 18 units over 2 years, covering areas such as:

• Exploring Business
• Developing a Marketing Campaign
• Personal and Business Finance
• Managing an Event
• International Business

All students gain work experience throughout their course with supportive and inspiring employers to enhance their employability skills and further their knowledge in their chosen area of interest. Many students have utilised their work placements to gain further employment, volunteering opportunities as well as to support career progression applications.

A key aspect of the Business course is the amount of experiential learning opportunities available to the students. Students enjoy a wide variety of visits to business organisations such as, Escape Rooms, Great Tower, Blackpool Pleasure Beach & Intu Trafford Centre, all linked to specific units in their course. During the course, students will visit a selection of universities, attend key apprenticeship and careers fairs to enhance their awareness of career progression options available and participate in regional and national business and enterprise competitions. Previous business students have won cash prizes and even mentoring opportunities with past judges and winners of The Apprentice. In addition, students also have the opportunity to attend the recently added Disneyland Paris visit and complete an industry specific work placement in Italy.

To further support the students, a brilliant range of guest speakers are arranged to cascade their experiences, inspire the students and pass on hints and tips for working in a specific industry. Students gain honest and detailed insights into various careers and situations that they can utilise to develop their future pathways.

All students will receive tutorial support designed to assist them with completing the course successfully and identifying future career options.

How will I be Assessed?

This course is continuously assessed using a combination of both internally and externally set assessments.

What qualification will I get?

On completion of this course you will receive a BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Business. This is nationally recognised by employers and higher education institutions and is equivalent to three A Levels.
