An Apprenticeship is a perfect choice if you want to continue your studies and develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours in a specific industry, while also earning a salary in full-time employment; kickstarting your long-term career path.

The Marketing Assistant Level 3 Apprenticeship has a typical duration of 12-18 months where 80% of this will be focusing on your job role, and 20% will be focussed on completing off the job training. You will be focussing on the skills, knowledge and behaviours of the Marketing Assistant Standards, whilst working independently and part of a team in an organisation. You will be involved in a wide range of activities including the planning, delivery and evaluation of marketing activities.

End-point assessment (EPA) is the final stage that an apprentice goes through to complete their Apprenticeship. The apprentice must demonstrate their learning to an independent end-point assessor and the grades available are distinction, pass or fail. There are three assessment events for this standard, a 40 question knowledge test, a work based project and a professional discussion.

Entry Requirements

To study this Apprenticeship you must:

  • Have enthusiasm for the subject area

  • Enjoy working with other people

  • Show a commitment to study

  • Be able to work independently

  • Have good interpersonal skills

  • Show a flair for creativity

You must have 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher including English and Maths OR either a related Level 2 qualification (give example) or related experience in the workplace sufficient to pass a skills test to the appropriate level.

Course Activities

Apprentices have the opportunity to attend the College’s Skills Academy sessions which address a range of topics such as: Social Media Marketing, Communication Skills, Influencing & Negotiating, Networking and Resilience.

There are 18 key knowledge areas for this course:

  • Marketing theory, concepts and basic principles

  • Current technologies used to help deliver marketing planning, delivery and evaluation

  • Legislation and regulatory frameworks affecting marketing operations

  • Principles of marketing ethics

  • The internal dependencies that positively and negatively influence the success of marketing

  • Primary and secondary research methods and data types

  • Brand theory

  • How marketing fits within organisational structures and processes

  • How to brief and manage external marketing suppliers and the risks of ineffective briefing/managing

  • Copywriting and proofreading techniques

  • Search engine optimisation techniques and effective video production and publishing practice

  • The benefits of a customer relationship management system

  • The benefits of marketing automation processes and systems

  • The metrics relevant to the delivery and evaluation of marketing activities

  • Budgeting principles and good procurement practice

  • The importance of planning and maintaining offline and digital assets

  • Awareness of social media platforms appropriate to customers and business segments

  • The customer journey and the customer segments relevant to your market

Apprentices will take part in a mix of blended learning with a focus on developing the students’ confidence in communicating via online platforms.

The knowledge test consists of 40 multiple choice questions and 10 of these will be based on 2 given scenarios.

The work-based project will be designed to ensure that the apprentice’s work meets the needs of their business, is relevant to their role and allows the relevant skills, knowledge and behaviours to be demonstrated.

The project may be based on any of the following:

  • A business specific need – such as a tactical marketing issue

  • A Specific problem

  • A recurring issue

  • A new business idea or opportunity

Finally, the apprentice will complete the professional discussion with the independent assessors. This discussion will last 60 minutes and will allow validation of work delivered, discussion of any areas of the work-based project highlighted by the independent assessor during the review of the project report as needing further investigation/testing, and seek to explore any knowledge, skills and behaviours mapped that are yet to be evidenced.

Progression Opportunities

Upon completion of this Apprenticeship learners may choose to go on to higher education at university and a degree such as Marketing, Public Relations or Events Management, or alternatively, they may choose to move on to further full time work within the industry.
