This Traineeship is available to anyone aged 16-24 and is designed to help you feel confident about your future. The Borderlines learning environment is underpinned by a non-judgemental & democratic approach and is delivered by a team of artists and tutors who are keen to help you discover your hidden creative talents.
Working from The Gregson Community Centre, trainees form a creative work team with professionals from Ludus Dance and LMC. Over 7-weeks the team are set two creative challenges designed to develop skills in resilience, problem solving, effective communication & team work.
This programme is underpinned by the Silver Arts Award which forms a framework through which the Traineeship is delivered.
To enrol onto this Traineeship you must:
Have a curiosity for the creative industries
Be willing to work with other people
Be willing to try new things
Have a commitment to study (attendance, punctuality & behaviour)
You will also need to be between the ages of 16-24 to qualify for this programme.
Challenge 1: Commit to Borderlines Creative Traineeship Programme (19 days, over 7-weeks)
Challenge 2: Contribute to and/or participate in the creation of a new choreography, and work as a team to produce an event where an invited audience will watch the new dance work.
Committing to these challenges helps to develop emotional resilience and allows learners to step outside of their comfort zone. The programme is modelled on a series of professional working days that a company member of a performing arts organisation would have when devising a new piece of public art. Activities include; developing practical fitness, choreographic and/or dance performance skills, visits to watch and review art in the public domain, visits from guest speakers and master classes with guest choreographers, artists & creatives.
During your Traineeship you will study a variety of topics, including:
Arts practice and pathways
Identifying and planning an arts challenge
Implementing and reviewing an arts challenge
Reviewing arts events/experiences and sharing their views
Researching future opportunities and careers in the arts
Arts leadership
Identifying a leadership role and planning a leadership project
Being an effective arts leader
Planning the practical issues
Working effectively with others
Reviewing their project and the development of their leadership skills
Trainees are required to record evidence of their experience which they are supported to upload to their personal online blog; using text, image, video and audio files to help illustrate the experience. These are presented to an Arts Award assessor who will award them at either the Bronze Level 1 Arts Award or the Silver Level 2 Arts Award. Award level will be dependent on the depth of engagement, which is mapped against a set of criteria. All trainees are supported in how to evidence their learning through bespoke Maths, English & Digital tutoring.
