Life at LMC
Here at Lancaster & Morecambe College (LMC) we look to enrich students’ experiences through offering a variety of exciting opportunities to develop industry and social skills. We also offer a range of support and guidance services to ensure all learners get the most out of their College experiences.
We want every learner on our campus to feel safe, secure and supported and that is why we encourage learners to utilise our Safer College Community, Student Money and Additional Learning Support teams amongst others, learn how we can support you during your time at College.
Course Trips, Visits & Guest Speakers
Throughout our study programmes we look to embed a range of industry related activities to help our learners gain greater insight into their chosen sector and to give them the opportunity to experience teaching from industry specialists.
All of our courses offer a range of trips, visits and guest speaker opportunities. Last year, learners studying on the Land-Based and Animal Management course were invited to meet with former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to discuss the benefits the eco-tourism visitor attraction Eden Project Morecambe will bring to the local community, and our Cabin Crew team visited an aviation training centre, and took part in a range of real-work tasks and activities.
International Learning
As part of our commitment to working internationally, we send staff and students abroad for professional and personal development, increasing their cultural understanding and industry knowledge on an international scale.
Examples of recent international trips include:
- Hospitality & Catering students visited Paris, France and visited a traditional French bakery and observed hospitality at top restaurants
- Business & Hospitality and Catering students visited Italy to learn more about traditional recipes and the local economy
- Sports students visited Alicante, Spain to to develop their sporting skills
- Travel & Tourism students visited Cancun, Mexico to experience the travel industry and service offering as well as local culture
- Animal Studies students visited Canada to support an own sanctury and explore other areas of the industry
- Creative Digital Media & Art and Design students visited New York to explore the industry in the big apple and the famous art museums
Work Experience
All Full Time learners at LMC undertake work experience as part of their study programmes. This allows learners to put theory learnt throughout their course into practice and gives them the practical experiences to help them explore potential career routes. Work experience ranges from two weeks in industry to a two day weekly block release depending on the learners’ course.
We have links to over 700 employers through our Apprenticeship provision so there are a wide range of local employers happy to work with our learners. We encourage Level 3 learners to source their own work experience as this gives them job acquisition experience however, we have a dedicated team available to support learners in securing their placements.
Student Voice
LMC Student Voice provides learners with a student-focussed community of like-minded people from other subject areas and gives learners the opportunities to have their voice heard, support at College events and make a positive impact both on-campus and in the community.

YOUR TUTOR(S)
Industry specific apprenticeships are a great way to learn new skills and knowledge, achieve a recognised qualification and earn a wage. Customer service is the corner stone of every successful business, and courses at LMC will help you identify, improve and introduce these skills successfully.
All you need to start the Supported Internship course is enthusiasm, motivation, energy and determination. As the course progresses, you will develop your employability, personal and social skills, which will enable you to increase your independence and develop your confidence and self-esteem. All of these new skills will ensure that you are better prepared to enter the workplace as a skilled and effective employee.
I would say come to College, study Beauty Therapy, be pampered, pamper clients, but be prepared to work hard for the qualifications to get far in the industry. It's a very rewarding career to go into, putting smiles on clients faces and giving them a new found confidence.
Welding particularly is like lego for adults – its great fun making things. Whereas Engineering will teach you why things are made the way they are and a combination of both will give you the skills to make almost anything you can think of! Why not give it a go!
In my role as a course tutor I’m responsible for ensuring that my students develop in many areas, and not just Hairdressing. I like to encourage my students to improve their well-being as well as support them with their personal development and learning journey, to gain the knowledge to be successful within their course to achieve the qualifications they need to progress in the industry.
I would recommend LMC as a fantastic place to study sport and continue your development and interests in football. Your studies link to your football development as much as possible, helping you gain the knowledge, skills and experiences to pursue a career in sport in the future.
