Skills For Life
Improve your functional Numeracy and Literacy skills in a relaxed and informal atmosphere
These courses differ from Maths and English courses at school as they focus purely on the functional skills you will need in your everyday life. They are offered FREE of charge to most learners. You may need to achieve a certain level of competence in order to gain or progress in employment or to start a course at college. You may wish to improve your confidence in dealing with everyday matters such as filling in forms, or helping your children with their homework.
You will work with one of our friendly tutors to decide which level of course is right for you, and develop an Individual Learning Plan. This will make sure that you are taught just the parts of the course you need, and don't have to go over things you already know. LMC's Skills for Life team also offer English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). These courses help those who are not fluent in English to improve their understanding, speaking and writing skills.
All Skills for Life courses are designed around you, and are flexible enough to meet your individual needs, whatever your age or ability. You will work at your own pace, start the course when it suits you, and take your exams whenever you are ready. The courses all have ICT skills built into them, so you will have the opportunity to improve your confidence with computers while you study.
LMC offers Skills for Life courses from pre-entry for complete beginners, to Level 2 which is equivalent to GCSE grade A - C. Courses may be completed at LMC's main site, Morecambe Learning Centre, or your local community centre. LMC are even successfully delivering Skills for Life courses in the workplace.
