This qualification develops practical teaching skills. It prepares teachers to deliver their specialist subject in a range of teaching and contexts, with a focus on the Further Education Sector. It covers the roles of a teacher/trainer, delivery of education in different contexts, assessing learners, and developing resources. It replaces the Level 3 and Level 4 Certificates in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS).
The qualification requires that candidates undertake a minimum of 30 hours of teaching, preferably with a range of individuals and groups and at more than one level. These hours can be completed as part of an employment contract, or on a voluntary basis. The taught sessions are held in the evening (usually Tuesdays or Wednesdays) for a full academic year.
This course is designed for adult learners studying part time as a hobby or to support a change in their career.
Successful students can apply for teaching roles in colleges and with other training providers.
• A Level 3 qualification and/or extensive industry experience in the teaching subject
• The ability to work at Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE grade C) in both maths and English
• The capacity to teach for a minimum of 30 hours during the academic year
• Applicants must be at least 19 years of age
You will study the following mandatory units:
• Planning to meet the needs of learners
• Delivering education and training
• Assessing learners
• Using resources for education and training
There will also be optional units, which may differ depending on your teaching
All LMC students will receive tutorial support.
Assessment includes a minimum of 3 observed teaching sessions, plus a portfolio of evidence which may include assignments, presentations, reports, witness testimonies and recorded discussions.
NCFE Level 4 Certificate in Education and training. This replaces the Level 3 and Level 4 Certificates in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS). It is accepted by many FE colleges as a full teaching qualification, alongside industry experience in vocational subjects.
