The best bit about my course was winning the league in my second year. Before the season started we had a few key players leave and I don’t think anybody truly believed that we could go and win it again, but we did, and I felt a great sense of pride.”

Joel Drewery began studying at the University of the Cumberlands, Williamsburg Kentucky, in 2017 after completing Level 3 Football Studies at Lancaster & Morecambe College (LMC)

Football Studies at LMC stood out to Joel when he realised he could take part in a full-time football training programme and gain a qualification at the same time. The College reached out to him and asked him to attend a trial before offering him a place on the course.

When asked what his greatest achievements were at LMC, he said:

“The best bit about my course was winning the league in my second year. Before the season started we had a few key players leave and I don’t think anybody truly believed that we could go and win it again, but we did, and I felt a great sense of pride.”

Joel is now living in America, majoring in Exercise and Sport Science with minors in Business and Coaching at the University of the Cumberlands.

His conference in America is the toughest in the NAIA, and Joel has been named in the best 11; something which he is extremely proud of.

He commented:

“This year I am going to go on to captain my team and lead them to a national tournament.”

Speaking about the Football Studies at the College, Joel said:

“I would fully recommend doing it. It is a great pathway to full-time football and it does allow you to improve your studies as well as improving your level as a footballer. I also think it does very well in maturing you and building you up for life after college.”
