I am thoroughly enjoying my time as a travel consultant, without Lancaster & Morecambe College I wouldn’t have had the confidence to reach out to different workplaces and be where I am today.

What were the best bits about your course?
After I left LMC I went straight into my full time position at Gates Travel in Kendal, having spent a few months in the Kendal shop learning the ropes of leisure travel I move over to the Ambleside branch where I have been learning a lot more about business and corporate travel. I have spent two years in total at Gates Travel. Alongside the business travel I have struck up a passion forholidays to America including fly drives / US city breaks and my most favourite is helping families with Florida itineraries.

How did you get into your career?
I got into my career because I had previously done work experience at Gates Travel when I was studying. I was coming to the end of my time doing the Air Cabin Crew course and I emailed the managers asking if they had any positions which
were becoming available.

What were the best bits about your course?
I had the best year of my life at Lancaster & Morecambe College, I met so many amazing girls, who like me, had a natural passion for the travel industry. By far my best bit was the day we visited the Thomas Cook Training Centre. It was brilliant, we got to learn so much.
Another one of my favourite memories was the Virgin Trains recruitment day, we did lots of activities throughout the day as if we were a part of their application process and this led me to having a week work experience on board the trains going between Oxenholme and London serving the first class passengers.

Why did you choose Lancaster & Morecambe College?
I chose Lancaster & Morecambe College because cabin crew was something I always had my heart set on and this is one of the only colleges I knew that did the course. Although the college was quite far from where I lived it was definitely worth all the travelling and traffic jams!

How did LMC help you get where you are today?
Although I haven’t quite made it into cabin crew I am thoroughly enjoying my time as a travel consultant learning the ins and outs of the workplaces. Without Lancaster & Morecambe College I wouldn’t have had the confidence to reach out to different industries and workplaces and be where I am today. They helped me with applying for different cabin crew roles and being interview ready. Like I said before even though haven’t made it into cabin crew I wouldn’t change what I do, I have learnt so much about cruising, tailor made holidays, skiing holidays and rail journeys within the UK and Europe. I have recently had the pleasure to go on a Fred Olsen cruise to help with my knowledge of cruising and it was a fantastic experience.

What would you say to someone who was thinking about doing the same course?
All I can say is take the jump and go for it. As a course it will not disappoint, the tutors will teach you absolutely everything you need to know and more. They will help you applying for jobs and the trips they provide are brilliant. As the tutors are previously from travel related jobs they do know what they are talking about and I would recommend fully taking on board everything they have to say. They are superstars and I wouldn’t be where I am without them. Also the girls I met on the course will absolutely be friends for life; I am still in regular contact with a lot of them checking what they are up to and where they are jetting off to.
