Teaches: Hospitality and Business

When did you start working at LMC?
I came to LMC to do a Cert Ed in 2012. I did my teaching practice here at LMC and then decided that this is where I wanted to work and was lucky to secure a position with Aspire in 2014.

What brought you to LMC?
Initially to study but I had always wanted to work in FE and at LMC.

What did you do prior to working here?
I began my career in Retail, running the family business whilst at university studying business. I then went on to work for high street brands such as Topshop, Burtons and Claire’s as a Store Manager, Training manager and Area Manger over 25 years. I then decided on a change after having my third child, and started a business which I sold in 2012. I then decided to change career direction, transferring my skills whilst retraining to begin a career in teaching. I came to LMC to do a Certificate in Education and then went onto Uclan and gained a 2:1 BA Hons in Education in 2016.

What is your favorite thing about your job?
Firstly, working with our young people with their unique and diverse needs.

I like the variation in the role, every day is different and challenging. It allows me to use all my skills from my previous career as well as continuing to learn and develop new skills and knowledge. I love to learn so this is an ideal environment as there are always new opportunities to acquire knowledge.

What is the best thing about the course(s) you teach?
I like the fact that I can use my skills to work practically and like the autonomy and flexibility to adjust to the needs of the learners. I love that my learners grow in confidence and build self-esteem by working in a real life environment to gain practical skills to take them into employment. I also like the flexibility that allows us to really meet the needs of the learner to help them to realise and achieve their goals.

What are the best bits about working at College?
The people from students to colleagues. I am lucky to work with amazing people who are always on hand to support each other.

What would you say to someone who was thinking about joining your course?
If you want the opportunity to use and develop practical skills, learn about an accessible vocational area, have fun, work hard and deal with the public then this is the course for you.

Anything else you would like to tell us?
LMC is a great community asset and I think the local district are lucky to have such a modern, flexible and engaging place of education.
