No two days are the same when working in the Animal unit. I love looking after all the animals, and there is such a community feel around the College, like we are one family.

Kelly joined Lancaster & Morecambe College in 2011 as a Learning Support Assistant, before moving to the Animal department in 2019.

After leaving school, Kelly went straight into the world of work and opened her own riding school in Lancaster. She has always been passionate about animals, especially horses.

I always knew I wanted to work with animals, especially horses, as I grew up around them. Horse care has been a huge passion of mine, and I loved running my own riding school.

As an Instructor Technician in our Animal Studies department, Kelly manages the day-to-day care of all our animals, including our axolotl, chinchillas, snakes, and chickens. She also regularly checks our stock to make sure everything is ready for lessons, and teaches both our Practical Animal Care Level 2 part-time course and the Environmental Sustainability Level 2 part-time course.

When asked what she'd say to anyone thinking about a career in the animal industry, Kelly said:

Just go for it! It's an exciting and rewarding field, and if you have a passion for animals, you will go far.
